What Is Mastering?
Mastering sometimes called audio post production is the process of taking your source and making it sound as good as possible. With proper use of equalization, compression, and various other processing to bring it is fullest potential as well as bringing it up to the industry standard.
What Mastering Does
1. Raise the overall level.
2. Even out song levels and EQ individual tracks for cohesion.
3. Make your music perform and sound well on all systems.
4. Enhance flow by changing the space between tracks.
5. Stereo Enhancement
6. Fades/Cross fades : Perfecting track beginnings - fade outs and silences between your audio tracks
7. Reducing unwanted effects such as noise, hiss, hum and crackle
8. Generally improves the overall listening experience. Manage the dynamic range of an audio signal by reducing the peaks to be able to boost the levels. Depending on the type of music and the recording, more or less compression will be used.
The Results
1. Tracks will be consistent with each other track or your CD
2. Tracks will be as high in volume level as possible while preserving their proper dynamic structure
3. Uncompromising level of professional quality you would expect from a world class facility costing hundreds more.
4. Clean, Clear, Loud and Punchy. Songs have more punch, sheen, clarity, drive and smoothness, and that they have been assembled to sound like one coherent project rather than just a collection of songs.
5. The real advantage of mastering is that an unbiased sound professional has the opportunity to evaluate your master and determine how to get the most out of your production; a fresh pair of ears can be the difference between a good-sounding CD and a outstanding one.
